Seguin's own Starcke Park East is slated to become a hub of youthful glee as the city announces the groundbreaking of a brand new playground. Come March 5, at 4:30 pm, Mayor Donna Dodgen along with city council members, and city honchos will be sinking shovels into dirt to mark the beginning of something special for the community.

The people of Seguin rolled up their sleeves and rallied for their kids, clinching a $75,000 Niagara “Perk Your Park” grant thanks to a six-week public crusade, an achievement that was crucial in laying the financial foundation for this playground project. This is not just any playground though, it's a labor of love and safety - replacing the former Kids Kingdom Playscape that was dismantled last spring due to safety concerns, according to a city statement.

With a budget of about $650,000, the funds for this recreational haven are not just from the grant, but also from Park Development funds designated for such community enrichments. The blueprint features a range of inclusive play pieces to ensure that every child, regardless of ability, can enjoy the fun. And if that isn't enough, the park designers consulted with noted advocate for autism, Dr. Temple Grandin, to roll out the “Temple Trolley,” a unique attraction sure to enthrall.

The local recreation chief, Jack Jones, was brimming with pride when comparing the forthcoming additions to past projects. “If you like the new playground recently opened at Bauer Park, you will love the new playground planned for Max Starcke Park East, the new play features are different than the features at the playground nearby that was constructed in 2015," he said, his comments echoed on the city's official announcement. Kids and parents won't have to wait too long to test out the swings and slides - the grand opening is slated for sometime this summer.
