Gunfire erupted in Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood on Saturday afternoon, leaving a senior couple injured in a brazen drive-by shooting, authorities said. The Chicago Police Department reported that a 65-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man were targeted while walking on a sidewalk around 4:00 p.m. at the 2800 block of West Polk Street, with someone from a passing vehicle opening fire and striking them.
Both victims managed to drive themselves to Mount Sinai Hospital despite their injuries, as was stated by the Chicago Sun-Times. The woman sustained a wound to her arm, and the man's left leg was hit by gunfire. They were listed in good condition upon their hospital arrival, police said.
Following the incident, no arrests have been made, and the details surrounding the motive for the shooting remain unclear. Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the attack but have yet to describe the suspect or the vehicle allegedly involved in the shooting. In an attempt to gather more information and track down the individual responsible, Chicago police have appealed to the public for assistance.
As reported by WGN-TV, anyone with information about the shooting has been urged to contact CPD Area Four detectives or to leave an anonymous tip at CPDtip.com.
