Residents of South Texas felt the ground shake beneath them as two more earthquakes hit the town of Falls City, Texas, which is located approximately 10 miles northwest of Karnes City. A 3.9 magnitude tremor was reported by the U.S. Geological Survey at around 2 a.m. today, followed by a smaller 2.9 magnitude quake around 30 minutes later in the same vicinity. The more potent of the two quakes was reported to be felt as far away as San Antonio, KENS5 reported.

Further adding to the seismic activity, a separate event occurred on Wednesday night with a 3.2-magnitude earthquake shaking the area, according to the USGS. This tremor, centered 40 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio, struck just after 8 p.m, as reported by KSAT. Fortunately, no damage or injuries were reported in the wake of the quake.

This recent cluster of seismic activity takes place within a history of tremors in the region. Last Thursday, Falls City recorded a 3.5 magnitude quake. Furthermore, records reveal that back on June 15, 2019, a 3.6-magnitude earth movement perturbed the area near Poth and Falls City. Last summer also saw seismic unrest, with two small tremors felt 11 miles east of Jourdanton in neighboring Atascosa County.

The seismic history of Karnes County is dotted with shakes and rumbles. Last September, the area was jolted with four quakes in one week, with the largest, a 4.0 magnitude, hitting on September 14 with its epicenter 11 miles northeast of Falls City. Such regular, yet typically low-intensity seismic occurrences have seemingly become a hallmark for the region, with residents growing accustomed to the Earth's abrupt awakenings.
