A ghastly discovery was made on the sands of Miami Beach where beachgoers found the remains of a human fetus washed ashore, sparking a police investigation into the unsettling incident. Miami Beach police confirmed the news yesterday afternoon after a beachgoer stumbled upon the unsettling sight near North Beach's 7900 block and reported it, as per Local 10.
The area was promptly cordoned off by authorities as the Miami Beach Police Department launched their death investigation around 1:30 p.m. Sky 10 helicopter footage captured just after 3 p.m. showed officers working diligently on the scene, placing a box over the tragic remains and subsequently removing it from the sand. According to a WFLA report, the police had not released further details about the death or the encompassing investigation.
A medical examiner's involvement is expected to shed light on this grim find. The examiner aims to determine the age of the fetus and whether any injuries may have caused the death. "A medical assessment will better guide us as to how old the fetus was, but based on our observation, it does appear to be a fetus and does not appear to have been born, but these are speculations at this time," Miami Beach Police Officer Christopher Bess told Local 10 during their coverage of the incident.
As the questions loom over Miami Beach with residents and visitors confronted by the brevity of life, the authorities are pressing to piece together the circumstances that led to such a fate for the unborn. More information is expected to be brought to light as the investigation progresses, with updates yet to be furnished by the officials, in due course.
