In Macomb County, a speeding suspect led sheriff's deputies on a harrowing chase before being cornered and cuffed earlier this week. According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, the 27-year-old New Baltimore man's wild ride began on 23 Mile Road and didn't end until his vehicle was disabled by stop sticks.
Deputies described the suspect's driving as erratic, involving excessive speed, merging lanes, unsafely, and cutting off other cars on the road on Feb 20th, it was only after deploying road spikes that the deputies slowed down, the renegade pickup enough to corner it in a local business parking lot, where the suspect then bailed on foot. Despite the hurdles, law enforcement was quick on the draw to capture the runner, who resisted with the flailing desperation of the caught.
Other deputies joined the pursuit culminating in a takedown, the suspect— operating a blue Chevy Silverado—was apprehended post haste after fleeing his immobilized vehicle. The man's fleeting attempt at freedom took him through a loop of Sandpiper Drive, Riverside Drive, and Calypso Drive, before a full circle back to Middle River Drive and onto 23 Mile Road.
After the chase, the suspect was housed in Macomb County Jail and awaited an afternoon arraignment, with the charges piling up against him like so many cars in the rear-view mirror of a suspect on the run. Shelby Township Officers who converged at the scene also helped wrangle the suspect into custody.
