In a late-night bust on Marble Street, Springfield police officers confiscated a loaded gun and cuffed a 29-year-old man who now faces a slew of charges. The suspect, Angel Sanchez, was scooped up after cops spotted a vehicle with lapsed registration and without insurance on Tuesday. According to the Springfield Police Department, officers were patrolling near the 0-100 block of Marble Street at around 10:55 p.m. when they noticed the idle car that soon turned out to be a rolling armory.

When the authorities approached the vehicle and realized it had to be towed due to the registration and insurance issues, a search ensued. They found a bag with a loaded high-capacity magazine on a front passenger seat and then discovered Sanchez with a holstered gun strapped to his midsection. While Sanchez was arrested, the driver got off with a criminal summons for the vehicle-related infractions.

The find didn't end with the firearm. The officers unearthed additional ammunition and pills tucked inside the bag, broadening the scope of the incident. Sanchez, hailing from Springfield, was hit with multiple charges, including carrying a firearm and a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a high-capacity magazine and feeding device (on two counts), possession of ammo without an FID Card, as well as possession of a Class E drug.

These events reflect a common narrative on the streets of Springfield, where an idle car can house hazards often unnoticed until the blue lights flash. The Springfield Police Department's knack for spotting such risks has led to the removal of another illegal weapon from a city block — a loaded large-capacity firearm that now won't be part of any future crime statistics, thanks to the vigilance of local law enforcement.
