Commuters were met with unexpected delays on I-75 northbound when a stopped truck caused rush hour havoc in Cobb County yesterday evening.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, traffic was brought to a standstill near Delk Road as Marietta and Cobb County police responded to reports of a driver, who was possibly suffering from a mental health crisis, causing a roadblock on the busy interstate. SKYFOX 5 captured aerial footage of the dark-colored pickup truck surrounded by patrol cars just as the evening rush was beginning to swell.
The lanes, which were closed to manage the situation and ensure the safety of the driver and surrounding travelers, were reopened by 6:50 p.m., the Cobb County police informed 11Alive. They went on to caution drivers about possible residual delays as the interstate's flow returned to its usual pace.
While the northbound lanes were shut, arriving at the scene just before 6 p.m., an ambulance further contributed to the disruptions. The Cobb County police did not immediately disclose the reason for this measure, however, officials expressed their commitment to the driver's well-being and the swift restoration of normal traffic conditions.
