
The quiet of a Lakeside neighborhood was shattered last Tuesday when gunshots rang out on Cactus Street, where law enforcement discovered 26-year-old Michael Anthony Johnson fatally wounded, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
Callers reporting the gunfire led deputies to arrive at the 9700 block at precisely 3:10 p.m., where they found Johnson lying in the street, efforts to save him continued as deputies handed over the scene to Fire Department personnel and paramedics and despite this urgent care, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In pursuit of answers and justice, a suspect was arrested the following day; 26-year-old Anthony Jose Gonzales now faces murder charges, booked into the San Diego Central Jail, per the Sheriff's Department.
The Lakeside community, still grappling with the loss, has seen the authorities appeal for any details that could lead to contextualizing this apparent senseless act of violence, the Sheriff's Department has made clear they need the community's input, asking those with information to come forward furthering their investigative avenues that might lead to a thorough understanding and resolution for the community's grief.
