A high-speed chase ended in a crash and the arrest of suspected teenage thieves last night in El Cajon. According to the El Cajon Police Department, a tip from a concerned citizen led to the pursuit of a stolen vehicle carrying three individuals believed to be involved in an earlier retail theft.
The incident began at approximately 11:20 PM at 815 North Mollison when an observant witness reported a break-in, which quickly escalated to auto theft. Police officers attempted to stop the stolen car, but the driver aggressively accelerated, fleeing the scene. Adding to the chaos, a handgun was discarded from the fleeing vehicle and subsequently retrieved by officers.
The chase culminated in the vehicle's crash into a dirt embankment as it departed from the freeway. The occupants scattered on foot, but the escape was short-lived for two of them. Police apprehended the juveniles, while the third suspect eluded capture despite an intensive search, as reported by the El Cajon Police.
Authorities linked the stolen vehicle to a San Diego theft and also suspected the teens of stealing over $1000 in goods from Dick’s Sporting Goods earlier that day. Both captured teenagers were taken to Juvenile Hall. The El Cajon Police continues its search for the third accomplice, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Community members with knowledge of the incident or the whereabouts of the third suspect can contact the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311. The department also advises that individuals preferring to remain anonymous can submit their tips to Crime Stoppers by calling (888) 580-8477.
