A mother and her teenage son were caught in a hail of gunfire Thursday night at a San Antonio apartment complex, leaving the boy in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. The attack occurred at the Haven at Westover Hills Apartments, according to San Antonio Police Department officials.
The violence unfolded just before 10 p.m. as the pair attempted to enter their apartment complex at a gate but were unable to gain access. Searching for another way in, they encountered a group of roughly five individuals near the leasing office, reported FOX San Antonio. It was from this congregation that one person started shooting at the car, striking the 15-year-old.
While the mother managed to escape injury, the teen was not as fortunate. The mother quickly drove out of the complex seeking aid, eventually stopping in a parking lot to call for help. Her son was subsequently rushed to the hospital where he remains in critical condition, as KENS 5 detailed.
Detectives are now on the hunt for the suspects, described as young adults or teens, who were last seen fleeing the scene in a white vehicle. So far, no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting. Police are continuing their investigation, piecing together the events that led to the tragic incident that left a family shattered and a community in search of answers.
