A teenage boy was the victim of a shooting late Wednesday night in southwest Atlanta. The Atlanta Police Department responded to a call at 268 Polar Rock Road SW at around 11:07 PM, where they found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his right ankle.

The victim, who was conscious and breathing, was swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment. According to the Atlanta Police Department, preliminary findings suggest the shooter was known to the victim, who was left lying in distress on the southwest side. The suspect had fled the scene before police officers arrived.

Detectives from the Aggravated Assault Unit were brought in to conduct a further investigation into the situation. No arrests have been made as the search for the suspect continues and the police are asking for anyone with information to come forward, in hopes of piecing together the events that led to the teenager's injury.
