A hail of bullets tore through the tranquility of a West Chatham home Sunday night in Chicago, leaving three dead and one wounded in a spate of gun violence that has gripped the city. A 14-year-old boy, identified by family members as Amere Deese, was among the casualties after two gunmen reportedly stormed into the residence and opened fire.

According to ABC7 Chicago, the fatal altercation occurred around 7:33 p.m. on the 8000-block of South Vincennes Avenue, when, two males entered the two-story home during an in-house confrontation and began shooting. Alongside Deese, the gunfire claimed the lives of a 20-year-old man and a 36-year-old man.

Another victim, a 17-year-old boy, sustained a leg gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital in fair condition, officials said. The bloody evening is a stark reminder of the city’s persistent struggle with gun violence and street crime.

In the aftermath of the shooting, local Alderman William Hall expressed a city in mourning. "Tonight, we are planning three funerals and not three futures," Hall lamented according to ABC7 Chicago. He implored the community for help: "Chicago, is way better than this. Help us find these killers. Do not allow any killer to sleep on any couch, any bed," he added.

Earlier that day, in a separate incident, Chatham was rocked by another round of gunfire that left one person dead and at least three others critically injured, as reported by the Chicago Tribune

As investigations unfold, the Chicago Police Department is actively seeking two people in connection with the West Chatham shooting. They have urged anyone with information to step forward and assist in what has become an all-too-familiar plea for justice in a city scarred by gun violence.
