
A devastating head-on collision in Koochiching County, Minnesota, claimed the lives of three individuals and critically injured two others on Sunday. The accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. when a 2016 Chevy Silverado, driving east on Highway 1, collided with a 2021 Ford F-150 traveling in the opposite direction, according to CBS News Minnesota.
Riley Scheidecker, the 24-year-old driver of the Chevy from Bloomer, Wisconsin, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was buckled up at the time of the crash. The two passengers in Scheidecker's vehicle, both 26-year-old men, suffered life-threatening injuries, while a third also aged 26, was injured but is expected to survive. It was noted that the two severely injured passengers were not wearing seat belts.
The Ford F-150's driver, 27-year-old Joseph Carlson of North Branch, and his passenger, 27-year-old John Corazzo of Shoreview, also died from injuries sustained in the accident. Both men were wearing their seat belts, authorities said. The Minnesota State Patrol is still investigating the crash, including whether alcohol was a contributing factor. The injured were transported for medical treatment to Bemidji, and Fargo Hospitals respectively, as reported by KARE11.
