Three men were slapped with charges Thursday in connection with a deadly shootout at a Houston gas station, authorities said. The suspects, identified as Travante Marques Purvis, 22, Christian Nicholas Barrera, 19, and Fernando Aguilar Jr., 24, are each facing capital murder charges after a robbery turned fatal early Wednesday morning.
According to a news release from the Houston Police Department, the gunfire erupted around 6:30 a.m. at the station on Bauman Street, resulting in a victims, a 30-year-old man, being shot multiple times and later pronounced dead at the scene.
The deadly exchange took place when three suspects approached the man and a family member, attempting to rob them at gunpoint. The victim's uncle reportedly pulled out his own weapon, leading to a shootout. The HPD Homicide Division Detectives D. Crowder and A. Vinogradov revealed that one of the suspected assailants was hit during the gunfire.
All three suspects fled and were later apprehended at an area hospital where Purvis, the injured suspect, received treatment. Booking photos of Barrera and Aguilar have been released, though Purvis's image remains unreleased due to his hospitalization. The identity of the slain man is still under verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Those charged were nabbed after seeking medical help, leading to their prompt arrest and subsequent charges. As the investigation continues, detectives are piecing together the details of what exactly led to the fatal confrontation at the gas station that morning.
