Tucson Teen Leads Police on 100 MPH Interstate Chase in Stolen Car, Arrested After Near-Miss CrashSource: Facebook/Cochise County Sheriff's Office - Mark J. Dannels Sheriff

A 15-year-old boy led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a dramatic crash on Interstate 10, officials said. The adolescent was arrested after reportedly stealing a car from Tucson and catapulting it through an intersection, as per the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

The chase began around 3:30 a.m. when a deputy spotted the stolen vehicle, a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, near St. David bridge along Highway 80. After pulling over in response to the deputy's signals, the young driver suddenly sped off, hurling the car down the highway at speeds up to 100 mph, 12 News reported.

The reckless escapade took a turn for the worse as the juvenile switched off the car's lights and raced in the wrong direction on I-10 toward Tucson. The misadventure peaked when the car was flung from the Highway 90 intersection onto the exit ramp, according to a Facebook post by the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

"We are so fortunate that no one was injured or killed by the reckless actions of someone so young," Sheriff Mark Dannels said in a statement obtained by 12 News. The pursuit involved both the Cochise County Sheriff's Office and Benson Police Department, with the teen now facing charges as an adult. Evidently shaken but unharmed, the unidentified teen was evaluated by Mescal Fire Department medics before being detained.

Sheriff Dannels stressed the importance of parental guidance following the alarming incident. "We have to know where our kids are, and be the role models for them to follow as they grow into mature adults. Talk to your kids and foster a positive relationship knowing how many dangers are out there to lead them astray," he told the public through his office’s social media channel.
