Early Monday morning, a severe crash involving three vehicles shut down Thunderbird Road in north Phoenix, resulting in two people being hospitalized. As per FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred near State Route 51 with one of the vehicles catching fire and another landing in a ditch. Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 5:30 a.m., where one individual was found with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The area has been restricted to traffic in both directions at the SR 51 exit while investigators are on the scene. A report by AZ Family described the crash involving two pickup trucks and a van that ended up in a waterway. One of the pickup trucks sustained severe damage to its bed and was apparently on fire before the local fire department extinguished the flames.
Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved or the cause of the collision. The Phoenix police confirmed the three-vehicle involvement, saying that Thunderbird Road would remain closed for several hours as they conduct their investigation into what led up to the crash.
The Thunderbird Road exit of SR 51, a busy artery in the early hours when commuters are starting their day, will likely cause delays and detours for north Phoenix drivers. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes and allow extra time for travel. Police are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to come forward to aid in their ongoing investigation.
