Two suspects have been cuffed for their alleged roles in a Worcester shooting that left a teenager dead, police said. Worcester law enforcement, assisted by the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Squad, nabbed 21-year-old Kidam Oquendo and 18-year-old Alexis Medeiros on February 23, following the February 12 Shannon St shootout.
Oquendo, from Wawecus Rd, is looking down the barrel of multiple charges including Armed Assault to Murder, and Attempted Assault and Battery by Firearm. He also faces counts for Illegal Firearm Possession and Ammo without an FID Card, firing a gun close to a home, and Possessing a Firearm during a Felony. Medeiros, hailing from Chandler St in Gardner, got tagged with being an Accessory After the Fact and Obstruction of Justice, according to an update from the Worcester Police Department.
The original incident unfolded in the early hours of February 12, when ShotSpotter, the city's gunfire detection system, sent cops scrambling to Shannon St around 3:16 AM. They hit the scene to find evidence of a shooting, but no victim. It wasn’t until they checked the local hospitals that they discovered a 17-year-old with gunshot wounds who ultimately couldn't pull through. The boy's identity has not been disclosed by the authorities.
