
Tragedy struck a Cape Cod construction site Friday afternoon when two workers were severely injured as a wall came crashing down upon them, causing emergency crews to scramble to their aid. According to NBC Boston, the accident occurred on Brick Kiln Road in Falmouth, Massachusetts, around 2:30 p.m., prompting quick response from local fire and rescue departments.
The victims were found suffering from "multi-system traumatic injuries" as first responders arrived at the scene neither of their conditions was readily available to the authorities, as reported by the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department. Despite the lack of immediate detail on the extent of their injuries, the gravity of the situation warranted the dispatch of two MedFlight helicopters to transport the injured workers to area trauma centers for urgent care.
WCVB reported signage around the project indicating the plan to build over two dozen homes.
Falmouth Inspectional Services, the local police force, and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration seek to uncover the circumstances that led to this calamity, Falmouth Fire Chief Timothy Smith stated the investigation is currently being conducted to establish the cause of the wall's collapse. While OSHA acknowledged awareness of the incident, they have yet to release any information pertaining to the ongoing investigation.
