Universal City residents, get your yard waste ready for pickup. The city has outlined three options for brush disposal — no frills, just the facts. According to the city's official website, the first option is a no-cost waste management brush collection service for residential areas. The pickups are scheduled to occur four times a year, with upcoming dates on March 25, April 22, October 28, and November 25. Homeowners need to have their brush curbside by 7 AM on the Monday of the scheduled pickup week, with a limit of 6 cubic yards.

For those needing to easily get rid of their waste, the city is clear: preparations can start as early as the Wednesday before the collection date. The second option offered is a city-wide clean-up event held in April and October. This event gives residents the chance to dispose of bulk trash and includes 30 minutes of free curbside brush chipping. To take advantage, residents should provide a Universal City ID or utility bill, and keep in mind that the free chipping is strictly limited to 30 minutes. For more information or to schedule service, homeowners can call Public Works at 210-658-5364.

The last option is the year-round curbside chipping service, which comes with a fee. The service is available every Friday, but residents will need to fill out an authorization form and shell out $30 for each half hour of chipping. To avoid any surprises, brush should be prepared according to the city's guidelines. You can stack your brush neatly at the curb, but don't include any bamboo, banana plants, or thorny bushes. The full list of requirements and restrictions is available on the city's website.
