A routine traffic stop in Hayward escalated quickly when a driver, after being busted for unlicensed driving, attempted to flee on foot, only to be caught by the police. The man's desperate bid for freedom didn't end well, as officers chased him down and arrested him a short distance from the spot where he was initially stopped, according to the Hayward Police Department's Facebook page.
The reason behind the man's attempted escape became apparent soon after his arrest. Inside his vehicle, officers discovered an unregistered rifle and drug paraphernalia, items that weren't there just for show. The discovery of the rifle, particularly troubling due to the man's probation status, which prohibits him from owning firearms, explained his attempt to give officers the slip.
This incident took a further turn when the driver compounded his troubles by providing a fake name to the police. The fake identity unfolded yet another layer of trouble for the man as it was revealed that he also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, as the Hayward Police Department reported.
Running away after being pulled over for mundane violations certainly implies an ulterior motive, a suspicion that was confirmed by police when they found the prohibited items in the man's car. Sadly for the driver, leaving the scene in a hurry did not impede law enforcement from doing their job, as it was a short-lived escape.
