A Westland man and an Ypsilanti woman were slapped with cuffs after attempting to rob an Ann Arbor market and fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle, officials said. The duo, identified as a 23-year-old male and a 21-year-old female, were apprehended by Ann Arbor police on Monday following their failed heist at Falsetta's Market.
The attempted robbery went awry around 2:00 p.m. when the suspects tried to lift items from the shop located at 2200 Pittsfield Boulevard but were confronted by store employees, as reported by ClickonDetroit. According to the police investigation, it was during this ill-fated encounter that the man drew a handgun on an employee attempting to prevent the woman's escape.
With no injuries reported inside Falsetta’s Market, the suspects took off, making a getaway in a white Kia sedan, revealed to have been reported stolen from Farmington Hills. Fleeing east on Washtenaw Avenue, their freedom was short-lived as police spotted the sedan, which stopped near the intersection of Washtenaw Avenue and Carlton Drive, as detailed by CBS Detroit.
The officers coming from the Pittsfield Township Police Department witnessed the sedan driving away with the driver, seeing the suspects ditch the car shortly after and attempt to flee on foot, according to Mlive. Subsequently, they were found at a nearby bus stop at Washtenaw and Foster Avenues by a deputy from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, where they were ultimately taken into custody by the police.
