
A Winterville man's life ended in an act of violence early Monday morning, as 48-year-old Willie Antonio Jewell was killed by a gunshot wound in the 1200 block of Athens Road, authorities reported. According to the FOX 5 Atlanta, Athens-Clarke County Police arrived on the scene near Moss Road to discover the man deceased.
Reeling from the incident, local police took a 26-year-old suspect into custody, shortly charged with the fatal shooting. The suspect, identified by the police as Cedric Robbie Jones of Athens, was arrested and charged with murder. Found at the crime scene after the shooting, the swift arrest came at the heels of a call reporting the incident at approximately 8:53 a.m.
