An 18-year-old man was shot and critically injured while sitting in a vehicle in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood, authorities said. The shooting occurred on the 5100 block of South Wolcott Avenue around 5 p.m. Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The young man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition. The specifics of the violent encounter remain murky, but, what is clear is that the assailant remains at large. Police said no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the incident is under investigation by Area One Detectives.
In response to the shooting, Chicago Police released a statement on their official website stating: "5100 block of S. Wolcott on March 4, at approx. 4:57 p.m. – (9th District) In the 5100 block of S. Wolcott at approximately 4:57 p.m., an 18-year-old male victim was traveling in a vehicle on Wolcott when he sustained a gunshot wound to the face by an unknown offender," as reported by the Chicago Police Department.
