In a shocking act of violence that rocked the District of Columbia, 19-year-old Antron Belk was indicted on an array of charges after allegedly opening fire on a man simply riding his scooter. The grand jury delivered an eight-count indictment on February 28th which includes one count of assault with intent to kill while armed, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Belk, a local of the District, is accused of a brazen attack that took place in the 4400 block of Quarles Street NE.
Authorities say the incident unfolded on February 25, 2023, when Belk, driving a stolen black Kia Optima with two passengers in tow, pulled up alongside the unnamed victim. The indictment alleges that the defendant stepped out of the car and mercilessly fired multiple shots at the scooter rider, leaving roughly 30 shell casings scattered at the scene. Judge Marisa Demeo has seen fit to order that Belk be held without bond pending his trial. The black Kia Optima had been previously reported stolen, adding an unauthorized use of a vehicle during a crime of violence to his list of charges.
The victim, whose name has been withheld, miraculously survived the attempt on his life but was left with no fewer than eight gunshot wounds, including two inflicted to his face area. Surveilling eyes captured the ordeal on video, watching as the assailant's journey culminated in he and his accomplices retreating into a residential building after the shooting.
This heinous act is currently being probed by the Metropolitan Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Iris McCranie leading the prosecution. More details will come to light as the judicial process unfolds.
