A young man's life came to an abrupt and violent end in a Kennesaw neighborhood, following a reported altercation over what has turned out to be counterfeit drugs, according to Cobb County Police. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Sanifu Henry of Kennesaw, succumbed to a gunshot wound after he was taken to a nearby hospital shortly after the incident which occurred just past midnight on McGuire Drive. Channel 2's investigation reveals a planned drug deal that turned into a robbery attempt, resulting in Henry's death.
The grim details of the shooting have unraveled two arrests, 18-year-old Zier Xzavier Green, and 19-year-old Re'Shard Marquis Lee, both charged with two counts of murder and additional felonies. "There was like six or seven gunshots," Kevin Jenkins, a resident of the area, recounted the events that disturbed their normally quiet neighborhood, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Court documents purportedly show that Green and Lee possessed marijuana, and a mixture that included simulated substances such as oregano and spinach leaves.
The investigation into the incident revealed a convoluted series of events involving a vehicle, where, according to the investigation, what may have been a drug-related situation took a deadly turn. The supposed narcotics turned out to be nothing more than a combination of marijuana and a mockery of herbs, fashioned to deceive. The community was left reeling with neighbors expressing their shock at such violence in their midst, "Definitely not normal around this neighborhood," Jenkins told FOX 5 Atlanta.
Henry's mother, Mary Mathis shared her grief and confusion over the loss of her son, who she said, "never caused problems to anybody, and this is a horrible situation." Mathis's poignant remembrance of her son, along with an admonition to others, was captured during her interview, stating, "If anybody is out there that's being led the wrong way, take this as a lesson and love your family hard, because they could be here today and not tomorrow," as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. Further marring the incident, the Kennesaw police are still seeking a fourth individual believed to have been in the car during the murder.
