A young woman's life came to a tragic end following a shooting at an illegal rave held in an abandoned building on San Antonio's Southwest side. The 21-year-old, whose identity remains withheld, was killed at a makeshift party in the early hours of Saturday in the former Knights of Columbus Hall on Old Pearsall Road, according to KENS 5.
Bexar County authorities are piecing together the scant details of the incident which also left a 29-year-old man injured. The venue known for its past community events turned into a scene of chaos as revelers scattered following the gunfire. "The building is unsafe, has no permit to operate, and anyone found here is subject to civil or criminal action," a Bexar County Fire Marshal's notice warned. The property's current state of dereliction follows years of tax delinquencies, with an outstanding bill hovering around $28,000.
While the owner of the dilapidated property remains free of charges, the facility was cited for "multiple code violations including dangerous electrical issues." The Bexar County Fire Marshal's office discovered these hazardous conditions during their inspection, as recounted by KENS 5. Meanwhile, Sheriff Javier Salazar implores the public for any information or video that could be pivotal to the investigation.
No arrests made yet in the unsolved killing, with the authorities asking for leads. Sheriff Salazar, speaking at a press conference, suggested the violence might have erupted from a disagreement between partygoers. "There could be several shooters," he urged individuals with knowledge of the incident to reach out to the detectives at 210-335-6000 or by emailing [email protected].
