A tragic burst of violence has left a neighborhood in Antioch reeling after a man fatally turned a gun on himself and injured three others, including two women and one child, during what police are describing as a "domestic-related shooting." The Metro Nashville Police Department responded to the emergency call after noon on Sunday, March 10, at the Baker Station apartment complex on Bakertown Road. According to WKRN, the man, who had a prior relationship with one of the female victims and resided with her, initiated the shooting immediately upon entering the residence.
Don Aaron, a public information officer for the Metro Nashville Police Department, confirmed the shooter to be the estranged boyfriend of the 31-year-old woman with whom he used to live. The bloody domestic dispute escalated too quickly to include gunfire upon the man's arrival. "A man who used to live at the apartment with a 31-year-old woman showed up at the address, already armed, and started shooting,” Aaron stated, as Ground News reported. The two women were rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition due to life-threatening injuries, while the 7-year-old boy, also injured, was stable.
Authorities said the 21-year-old woman's 7-month-old daughter was present at the time of the shooting but, thankfully, was not harmed. In a heart-wrenching detail, the police revealed to WKRN that the shooting occurred on the 7-year-old boy's birthday, adding a somber note to an already horrific scene.
The estranged boyfriend is reported to have died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. "After the man shot at them, he took his own life," authorities detailed to WSMV. Law enforcement is currently working to confirm the shooter's identity with the details they have obtained, which at this point include a name and date of birth.
