It's not every day that the police get sued by a preschooler, but when 4-year-old James Masse showed up at the Plymouth Police Headquarters, that's exactly what he threatened to do. Little James, accompanied by his trusty attorney-slash-grandmother, demanded an "emergency meeting" with Chief Flynn. He was there to assert his right, to join the force, stat.
As reported by the Plymouth Police Department on Facebook, the tot argued his case with the kind of gusto you'd expect from a practiced litigator, not a kid whose idea of a "brief" is a Pull-Up. Chief Flynn, enduring snippets of preschool logic, had to ring up the town's actual lawyer to deal with young James' age discrimination accusations. In the end, Flynn offered some sage advice – focus on acing recess and lunch.
Despite the pint-sized plea, the chief maintained that James would have to wait until he's of age and can undergo the civil service process. The department shared a post that read, "The chief told him to concentrate on the most important areas of study… Recess and lunch."
Even though the meeting may have ended in, what James called, an "impasse" the visit wasn't for naught. James, with his impromptu legal challenge and oversized ambition, managed to charm the badges off Plymouth's finest. The department's Facebook post warmly noted, "James won the hearts of the Officers that he met yesterday…. Thanks for stopping by…We will see you in about 20 years James!"
While the legal battle might be postponed until James can actually see over the steering wheel of a police cruiser, this audacious youngster has already patrolled his way into the heart of law enforcement. The Plymouth Police Department's recount of the day's events can be seen in full on their Facebook page.
