A man was killed in a tragic accident in Olmos Park on Thursday night, sources confirm. The Bexar County Medical Examiners identified the victim as 63-year-old Mauro Mendoza Santos, who died from injuries sustained when his vehicle was struck and forced off a bridge, Fox San Antonio reports.
The fatal crash occurred around 9 p.m. when a Toyota 4Runner swerved to avoid another vehicle in its lane. Because the driver's view was limited due to the hill, they couldn't see and collided with a parked vehicle on the Olmos Park Bridge. Santos, the driver, was thrown off the bridge and died at the scene.
Further details provided by News 4 San Antonio clarify that two vehicles were initially parked on the highway's shoulder, addressing a flat tire when the incident occurred. After the Toyota 4Runner struck a trailer attached to one of these vehicles, the aftermath was a devastating ejection off the Olmos Park bridge for Santos.
Another individual sustained abdominal injuries amidst the chaos of metal and momentum and has since been taken to the hospital where they currently remain in stable condition. The 4Runner's driver, while uninjured, dealt with the immediate aftermath, was found not to be intoxicated, and as of now faces no criminal charges.
