9-Year-Old Boy on Bike Survives After Being Trapped Under School Bus in Vancouver MishapSource: Vancouver Fire Department

In a harrowing Tuesday morning incident in Vancouver, a 9-year-old boy on a bicycle was hit by a school bus and became trapped under its rear axle, reported the KVAL News. According to Vancouver police spokesperson Kim Kapp's information provided to OregonLive, the bus was turning onto Southeast 10th Street when the boy, attempting to cross Ellsworth Road, collided with the bus and went underneath. The boy was then rushed to a Portland hospital with non-life-threatening leg injuries.

Swift action from the Vancouver Fire Department, arriving at SE Ellsworth Road and SE 10th Street following the 7:15 a.m. accident, they discovered the young cyclist pinned under the bus, tangled with his bike, the department later requested additional resources which included the technical rescue team that played a critical role in extricating the child. As recounted by KATU, rescuers promptly stabilized the bus using wood blocks before lifting it with hydraulic struts to free the boy in a delicate rescue operation.

Remarkably, the child survived this critical incident, escaping with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening. The school bus driver was not cited in the accident as the investigation by police officers did not lead to immediate charges, and the driver's identity has yet remained undisclosed to the public, police said.
