Roll up your sleeves and join the community effort to give the Mississippi River a much-needed spring cleaning, Anoka County is calling on volunteers to clear the trash from its banks across various sites this April. Up for grabs are three prime opportunities to do some good, with waste bags provided and staffers on hand to cart away the really big stuff.

The first of the events to kick dirt on debris will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Earth Day, April 22, at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, revealed an Anoka County press release, participants are set to convene at the Visitor Center and work with the tools the Parks Department will be doling out, from there, two more chances to pitch in are up for the taking the following Wednesday and Saturday.

Venture out midweek for the second cleanup scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on April 24 at Riverfront Regional Park, volunteers should plan to meet at the Riedel Farmhouse, a spokesperson for Anoka County Parks advised in the press release. The last event waves the green flag from 9 to 11 a.m. on April 27 at Mississippi West Regional Park, where a gathering at the boat launch will kickstart the day's efforts.

Willing hands wanting to RSVP can phone in at 763-324-3413, don't forget to dress in closed-toe shoes and bring along a pair of gloves for those not-so-neat encounters with refuse. Whether you're joining one or all of the cleanups, your toil will not go unnoticed, Anoka County ensures that your push for a pristine park will indeed ripple down the mighty Mississippi.
