Two young spellers from Arizona have etched their names in the annals of orthography, securing their spots in the upcoming National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C., as reported by 12news.com. Aliyah Alpert, a 13-year-old homeschooled student from Yavapai County, rose above her peers, cementing her win with the correct spelling of 'volemic'—a term describing the volume of blood in the circulatory system—during the tense final moments of the Arizona Spelling Bee held at the Madison Center for the Arts in Phoenix.

Competing against a cohort of 27 determined contestants, Alpert's impressive performance was closely followed by Isabelle Garcia, a 13-year-old from Kyrene de Pueblo Middle School in Chandler, who proudly claimed the runner-up position according to the Arizona Educational Foundation. Both Alpert and Garcia are now set to showcase their remarkable lexical skills in the high-profile National Spelling Bee to be held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center.

Third place was earned by Esha Marupudi, an 11-year-old from BASIS Chandler, followed by Ethan Knudson, a 14-year-old from Masada Charter School in fourth, and rounding out the top five was Aneesh Kulkarni, from Desert Trails Elementary who's age of 12 did not impede his strong placement. In recognition of their hard-won victories, the $800 checks they received will be complemented by the Arizona Educational Foundation covering their travel and accommodation for the national competition, "It's thrilling and inspiring to see the dedication and determination of these students," Dr. Teresa Hill, of the Arizona Educational Foundation, praised in a press release.

With over half a million contenders from public, private, charter, and homeschools across Arizona, the Spelling Bee showcases the state's robust participation in the national academic stage, this achievement proudly marks the 26th consecutive year the event has been held—a testament to the lasting value of academic competition and pursuit of knowledge in the Grand Canyon State, especially among the youth who continue to exceed expectations and rise to new challenges with every successive year as the finals of the National Spelling Bee, set to air live on ION, fast approach on May 30.
