Arlington Firefighter Stable After Being Shot During Welfare Check, Suspect DetainedSource: Google Street View

An Arlington firefighter was shot early Friday morning while responding to a call to check on the welfare of residents in an apartment complex. The incident occurred around 12:43 a.m. in the 400 block of Bardin Greene Drive after a 911 call reported children crying and calling for their mother, according to the Arlington Texas Fire Department.

The officers and firefighters decided to force entry after knocking and announcing their presence failed to elicit a response. As Arlington Fire Department personnel attempted to pry the door open, a shot was suddenly fired from within the apartment, striking firefighter Brady Weaver.

Following the shooting, the injured firefighter was able to move to safety and was later transported to a hospital. He is reported to be stable and alert. The Fire Department has identified the wounded man as Brady Weaver, sharing his department photo in the news release and asking for prayers for his recovery.

After the incident, the police ordered all occupants to leave the apartment. A man, woman, and two children emerged and complied with the commands. The man believed to have fired the shot was detained and is under questioning. "Investigators will consult with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether criminal charges should be filed," the Arlington Texas Fire Department stated in a press release. Further details are forthcoming as the investigation is still underway.
