Ashleigh Strange Named Executive Director of PA Governor’s LGBTQ Affairs Advisory CommissionSource: Pennsylvania government website

Pennsylvania's LGBTQ community has a new advocate in Harrisburg, as Ashleigh Strange steps up as the Executive Director for the Governor’s Advisory Commission on LGBTQ Affairs, the office dedicated to being the voice of LGBTQ Pennsylvanians in state government, according to a recent announcement. Strange, whose background includes communications roles with Pennsylvania Stands Up and Make the Road Pennsylvania, holds a 2016 bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and boasts leadership roles on the board of PA Stands Up Institute and as Vice-Chair of the Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates Board.

In a statement that reflects the ambition and ethos guiding this fresh chapter, "It’s an honor to work alongside such passionate commissioners who strive to build a Commonwealth where everyone can thrive," Strange said in a statement obtained by Pennsylvania's government website, also adding the importance of the LGBTQ community seeing their stories and identities acknowledged by legislative powers. Strange currently resides in Allentown with their partner, the cat Nike, and, by their own admission, a collection of plants struggling to see greener days.

The Governor's Advisory Commission on LGBTQ Affairs, initially established in 2018 by former Governor Tom Wolf and subsequently reaffirmed by Governor Josh Shapiro in June 2023, serves as a key platform for LGBTQ Pennsylvanians to have their concerns and experiences raised, providing Shapiro and his administration with informed policy recommendations.
