Austin residents, brace yourselves for a bout of turbulent weather ahead, as forecasters at the National Weather Service are predicting a mixed bag of sunny spells, potential showers, and even the threat of severe thunderstorms as the week progresses. According to National Weather Service, today's partly sunny skies will give rise to a high near 83 degrees, with light winds shifting south southeast in the morning.
Come nighttime, the clouds are set to gather, bringing in a low lingering around 63 and a persistent south southeast wind, adding a note of restlessness to the nocturnal hours. The potential for inclement weather rolls in on Thursday, with showers possibly punctuating the midday and a chance of thunderstorms rumbling in after 3 PM. "A chance of showers between noon and 3 pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 pm," the forecast details, faced with cloudy conditions and a brisk south southeast wind that may come with its own gusts, climbing as high as 20 mph.
Local news outlet KXAN has echoed this sentiment, cautioning that storm coverage, albeit very limited today, could appear in the northwest Hill Country. These isolated storms might pack hail and wind, the preliminary messenger of the unsettled weather to come. "The morning round is likely to hold more showers than thunderstorms," KXAN reports, foreshadowing the break that might come before a tempestuous overnight into Friday.
The latter part of the week doesn't offer reprieve, as the risk of severe storms intensifies. KXAN warns, "It’s this second round that has a greater chance of putting out strong to severe storms in our area." On top of the large hail concern, Austin could witness the force of destructive winds. However, as Friday unfolds, a cold front is set to escort the severe conditions eastward, granting a period of dryness and noticeably cooler air in its wake.
The weekend prognosis spells a drastic shift, with daytime temperatures predicted to barely skulk out of the 60s, while nightfall would see the mercury plummeting into the 40s. A sunny respite is on the horizon for Monday, with conditions warming to a moderate 72 degrees. Austin, it seems, will experience a week reminiscent of a seasonal rollercoaster – weather-wise, at least.
