Tensions boiled over into violence this weekend as shots rang out in the Bloomington night. The incident, which occurred in the parking lot of Dar Al-Farooq Center on the 8200 block of Park Avenue, has left the local community shaken. According to a statement from the Bloomington Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire on Saturday, March 16th, at precisely 10:40 P.M.
Sources indicate that a verbal dispute commenced inside the center's restroom, escalating until multiple individuals were asked to leave. To then attempt to diffuse the situation, those involved were escorted to the parking lot, which soon became the stage for subsequent gunshots. Bloomington officers who arrived on the scene found shell casings scattered across the asphalt, though, fortunately, there were no victims of the gunfire.
As the situation unfolded, several vehicles were seen departing the scene, complicating officers' efforts to swiftly apprehend those responsible. Witnesses who conversed with law enforcement mentioned that shortly after the expelled group had vacated the building, the sound of gunshots pierced the quiet night. While the exact motive and identities remain unconfirmed, the Hennepin County Crime Lab has since joined the investigation, providing forensic support to piece together the evening's chaotic events.
The Bloomington PD has issued a call for the public's assistance in a bid to gather additional information regarding the altercation or the shots fired. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Bloomington Police Department at 952-563-4900.
