The weather in Boston is taking a dreary turn as rain and gusty winds dominate the forecast, signaling a wet end to the workweek. As reported by the National Weather Service, today promises rain likely to occur mainly after 5pm, with a chance of precipitation standing at 60%. The city will also face patchy fog before 9am and a high near 61 degrees.
Into the evening, the probability of rain increases to a complete certainty, accompanied by the possibility of heavy downpours and tempestuous gusts up to 22 mph. Residents should be prepared to face a soggy Thursday, as rain is likely to persist with a steady temperature around 43 degrees, warned a forecast obtained by the National Weather Service. Yet, the situation is set to ameliorate somewhat into the weekend, as the rain chances slightly diminish to 30 percent by Friday morning.
NBC Boston echoed similar expectations, cautioning against the remnants of inundating overnight rain. According to their meteorologists, travelers should exercise caution due to lingering standing water, rushing water, and water levels still on the rise. While leftover showers will continue till midday Thursday, they are forecast to collapse in many spots later in the afternoon.
Cape Cod remains an exception, with light rain expected to persist into Thursday evening. Meanwhile, gusty winds are to target the coast, intensifying particularly around the Outer Cape as they continue to blow into Friday morning. The weekend, though not free from cloud cover or the threat of rain, promises a brief respite with a dry Saturday morning. However, Sunday may see an influx of more than an inch of water in most spots and wind gusts potentially over 50 mph ahead of the storm, which is expected to significantly strengthen as it moves into the Gulf of Maine.
The upcoming week offers a silver lining. Following the tempestuous weather, a streak of dry, gradually warming days is on the horizon. By the end of next week, temperatures are anticipated to flirt with the 60-degree mark once more. Bostonians, currently at the mercy of the rains and winds, can hold out hope for sunnier skies and milder airs as this wet weather pattern finally gives way to clearer days ahead.
