Boston cops bagged a 43-year-old man on drug trafficking charges in Jamaica Plain, snagging a significant stash of fentanyl in the bust. Isreal Alicea, hailing from Boston, was arrested last Friday evening by the Drug Control Unit of District E-13 and the City-Wide Drug Control Unit according to a statement obtained by the Boston Police Department's website.
The incident kicked off around 7:30 PM when officers, who were working an ongoing drug investigation, spotted Alicea leaving a building on Northampton Street and hopping into an idling car. The vehicle, flashing its hazard lights, wound its way towards Melnea Cass Boulevard with Alicea aboard. Cops tailed the car, suspecting a drug deal had just gone down, they eventually stopped the vehicle near the Massachusetts Avenue Connector and Southampton Street.
Inside the car, police discovered a hoard of drugs suspected to be fentanyl and cocaine, packaged in multiple plastic bags ready for sale. A subsequent search of Alicea after a police stop at 2300 Washington Street yielded an additional large bag of fentanyl and dozens of smaller packets, alongside four bags of cocaine. All told, the fentanyl weighed in at approximately 53 grams. A not-so-insignificant sum of $309 was also found on Alicea.
Charges against the suspect include trafficking of a class A drug, possession with intent to distribute a class A substance, along with distribution charges for both class A and class B drugs. Alicea is set to face the music at his arraignment in Roxbury District Court. Meanwhile, a second individual was slapped with a summons for drug possession and cut loose from the scene.
