
Yesterday, a South Boston patrol led to the arrest of a 15-year-old boy accused of possessing a loaded firearm. The arrest, which transpired around 10:22 a.m. on Dorchester Avenue, saw police nabbing the teenager after a brief chase on foot. According to Boston Police Department reports, the young male matched the description of a suspect sought in recent armed robberies.
The situation escalated quickly when an officer attempted to approach two individuals, leading them to rapidly try to flee the scene. A firearm was discarded by one of the youngsters at Andrew Square T Station during the pursuit. The officer persisted to eventually apprehend the juvenile on Boston Street and Ellery Street. Recovered at the scene was a Smith and Wesson M&P, loaded with one round in the chamber and an additional eight in the magazine.
The teenager was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. His arraignment is set to take place in Boston Juvenile Court. Details concerning the individual's defense or legal representation have not been made public.
At the same time, another juvenile was briefly detained and questioned by law enforcement near Dorchester Avenue and Alger Street and was then released. Boston Police continue to actively investigate the case, seeking to rapidly piece together the events leading up to the arrest.
