In a solemn display of brotherhood, the Maple Grove Police and Fire Departments dispatched a large contingent of officers and staff to honor the fallen heroes of Burnsville this week. In a poignant tribute to Officer Paul Elmstrand, Officer Matthew Ruge, and Fire-medic Adam Finseth, Maple Grove's City Council members and employees lined up to bid farewell to their own representatives and to demonstrate their solidarity with the City of Burnsville.
Security at the memorial and funeral services was of utmost importance, with over thirty officers from Maple Grove taking on the charge of protecting the mourning families, their colleagues in uniform, and various dignitaries. According to a Facebook post from Maple Grove Police, the sizable delegation was a mark of honor and respect for their fellow servicemen.
Thousands of police officers and firefighters from across the nation congregated to pay homage to the bravery and sacrifice of their three fallen brothers. "The loss of a police or firefighter in one community is a loss to all communities," the Maple Grove Police Department said in an online statement, underscoring the unifying grief and support that pervaded the service.
Their legacies will endure, as will the memory of their dedication and courage. "Paul, Matthew, and Adam gave their lives for the safety of their partners and community members," the department's statement continued, ensuring "They will never be forgotten."
