Carrollton is calling all runners and pet lovers to lace up their sneakers and leash up their dogs for a community event that combines fitness and philanthropy. The city's first-ever "Carrollton Tails & Trails" is a 5K race set for Saturday, April 27, at 8 a.m., and it's not just about breaking a sweat. According to the City of Carrollton, Texas, the revamped event will not only celebrate the bond between residents and their canine companions but also benefit the Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center.
The 5K will feature Carrollton's scenic Blue Trail and is said to be suitable for all levels of fitness, with a course designed to be downhill and enjoyable for runners and walkers alike, the proceeds from the event will support Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center, aiming to provide shelter and care for animals in need. Participants are encouraged to join with or without a dog and look forward to post-race festivities which include music, games, vendor visits, and an awards ceremony.
The event promises more than just the competitive race with an alternative 1-mile Fun Run/Walk starting at 8:30 a.m. for those who prefer a shorter route or a relaxed pace. The full package that comes with early registration includes a race bag, T-shirt, and timing chip for 5K participants, as long as they sign up by April 22. According to information provided by the City, a $5 change fee will be applied to any alterations made after this date.
Parking will be available at Creekview High School, from where participants will be shuttled to the start line on race day, with the warm-up and last-minute registration taking place between 7 and 7:45 a.m. before the main event kicks off, dogs are allowed to join in the fun but don't need to be registered. The City also highlighted that refreshments will be at the ready for all those crossing the finish line.
Group rates are on offer, and sponsorship opportunities are still available for businesses looking to support the community event. For residents unable to partake in the physical race but still wishing to contribute, donations of pet food, kitty litter, cleaning supplies, and monetary gifts are being accepted at various Carrollton facilities. The City has provided a detailed list of needed items and donation locations, which interested parties can find by contacting Carrollton Animal Services.
