A Cherokee County man faces a lengthy prison term following his conviction on charges including the strangulation and maltreatment of minors. Andres Felipe Sierra, 44, was found guilty on multiple counts including a family violence-related aggravated assault by strangulation, two counts of family violence battery, two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, and reckless conduct, as announced by the Cherokee District Attorney.
Sierra's arrest and subsequent conviction were the result of an investigation launched by the Woodstock Police Department in February 2023 after receiving reports of child abuse in the Towne Lake area. This was confirmed in a statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta. The four-day trial that ensued saw the jurors attentively listening to testimonies from 11 witnesses, aided by the presentation of over 100 pieces of evidence by the State.
After more than three hours of deliberation, the jury handed down a guilty verdict against Sierra. The testimonies during the trial included accounts from the victims themselves, bolstered by input from law enforcement officers, medical professionals, and first responders. Finally setting a date for retribution, Superior Court Judge Shannon Wallace has scheduled Sierra's sentencing for May 8, effectively moving the process towards a conclusion.
