Burglars have been hitting the 007th District (Englewood) with a certain voracity, as recent reports detail a series of break-ins where the front doors of homes on the 7100 Block of South Harvard Avenue were compromised. The string of burglaries, disclosed in a community alert by the Chicago Police Department, occurred at the tail end of February this year.
According to the CPD, incidents were pinpointed at specific timeframes; the first took place between February 25, and a subsequent intrusion occurred during the span from February 25 to February 26, 2024. In lieu of any concrete leads, the police have yet to identify the offender or offenders responsible and are currently endeavoring to swiftly gather evidence that could lead to an arrest.
The alert, posted on March 8th, emphasizes several precautionary measures residents can take to bolster their home security and deter future break-ins. Homeowners are advised to maintain well-lit perimeters, secure their doors and windows, promptly repair any damages to potential entry points, and install video surveillance if possible. In the unfortunate event of becoming a victim, individuals are instructed to avoid tampering with the crime scene and to contact the police immediately.
In addition to these protective steps, the CPD urges the community to report any suspicious behavior they encounter. If there is a witness to a burglary, the victim should try to obtain their contact information for investigative purposes. Special emphasis is also placed on securing window air conditioner units, which can sometimes provide an easy access point for would-be burglars looking to swiftly and unnoticed enter a home.
Englewood residents with any relevant information or surveillance footage are being encouraged to come forward and assist with the investigation.
