An elderly Chicago man is dead after a bloody, Chicago police officials said.

Authorities responding to the 3100 block of West 84th Place at approximately 11:40 p.m. discovered a 69-year-old woman with lacerations to her throat, and hands, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune. The injured party told police that she was assaulted by a man she knew inside the residence. Nearby, on the 3100 block of West 83rd Street, officers found a 77-year-old man with wounds to his throat that were reportedly self-inflicted.

The man, who has not been identified, was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead. The wounds on the man appeared to be self-inflicted, WLS reported, citing police sources. The woman was also treated at the same hospital, where her condition was listed as good.

Chicago police said the incident seems to be domestically motivated, both sources confirmed. The man, who lived in the home where he was later found, allegedly attacked the woman before turning the blade upon himself. While the circumstances leading up to the incident are still under investigation, the CPD Incident Response Team is handling the case as a domestic dispute gone tragically awry.
