Burglars have targeted the neighborhoods of Chicago's 2nd District (Wentworth), prompting police to issue a community alert. The warning highlights a recent string of apartment break-ins, where unknown offenders have entered through windows to pilfer personal property. The Chicago Police Department has reported several incidents in distinct locations.
Specifically, a burglary occurred on the 4400 block of South Drexel Blvd. within the 24 hours between February 24 and February 25, according to a statement released by the CPD. Another break-in was reported on the 5100 block of South Drexel Ave. from the night of February 27 to the late evening of February 29. Most recently, a daylight burglary happened on the 4800 block of South Vincennes Ave. on March 5, police noted. Each of these crimes involved a breached window and the removal of items within the residence.
In response to these illegal entries, authorities have advised residents to take precautionary measures. Keeping properties well-lit and securing doors and windows can serve as deterrents, they suggest. In instances where surveillance video is available, residents are encouraged to save a copy for investigating detectives. They also recommend forming agreements with neighbors to watch out for suspicious persons or activities.
If a crime does occur, residents are urged to avoid disturbing the scene and to contact the police immediately. "If you are a victim do not touch anything, call police immediately," the alert stressed. Engaging with witnesses and gathering contact information is also advised for further investigation. Such vigilance may help in deterring future occurrences and assist law enforcement in capturing the offender.
