Chicago neighborhoods are on high alert as a string of armed robberies continue to plague the city's northwest side. According to a community alert from the Chicago Police Department, multiple incidents have been reported in the 14th and 25th Districts, involving a group of male suspects who target individuals by brandishing firearms, demanding their belongings, and in some cases, inflicting physical harm.
The suspects, described as three to four black males between the ages of 17 to 25, have reportedly been making their getaway in a 2016 Black Infiniti G37 Sedan with Illinois license plate #9528382. Witnesses to the crimes detail how the armed robbers exit the vehicle, confront their victims with black Glock handguns complete with extended magazine clips, and then forcibly pull them out of their vehicles before robbing them. In a particularly violent encounter, a victim was slammed to the ground, sustaining a shoulder injury.
A series of robberies have been systematically executed across various blocks, from North Leavitt Street to West Potomac Avenue, with times ranging from early in the morning. Specific incidents, as listed by the Chicago Police Department, occurred on March 10, 11, and 13, 2024, with each robbery sharing a similar MO. Authorities are advising the public to bolster their personal security by being vigilant, avoiding confrontations, walking in groups, parking in well-attended areas, and not carrying large amounts of cash.
Residents are urged to immediately contact law enforcement if they spot the suspects or the aforementioned vehicle. The suspects, who were last seen wearing black ski masks and all-black clothing, are considered armed and extremely dangerous. "Be aware of your surroundings and unfamiliar or suspicious people in your area," the CPD warns. They also encourage the community to promptly call 911 in case of witnessing or falling victim to such incidents, emphasizing the importance of providing detailed descriptions to help capture these offenders and potentially avoid further victimization of the community.
