Chicago's streets have witnessed another chapter of their storied history of crime as Courtney McElrath-Bey, 33, faces a felony count of robbery. McElrath-Bey was apprehended Wednesday, and according to the Chicago Police Department, is accused of forcefully taking property from a 30-year-old woman last summer.
On June 1, 2023, the victim was allegedly robbed at around 8:30 p.m. in the 400 block of E. 66th St. It wasn't until nearly nine months later that an arrest would bring the case back to the forefront. McElrath-Bey was taken into custody in the 4600 block of N. Sheridan Rd., justice moving at its own pace, slow but inexorable.
The Chicago Police Department's statement gave few details beyond the charges and the circumstances of the offender’s capture. As McElrath-Bey was identified as one of the suspects involved in the heist, those at the heart of the matter are preparing for what comes next as a detention hearing is scheduled for the same day.
With the court date set for March 21, 2024, at 2600 S. California, the community and the legal system both await answers. The details surrounding the case, are yet to be fully unraveled.
