Business owners in Chicago's 9th District are on high alert as a spree of burglaries plagues the area. The Chicago Police Department has issued a business alert detailing a pattern of break-ins that have hit local enterprises hard during March. A white Lexus sedan has been spotted fleeing the scenes—now a hallmark of these crimes.
The CPD highlighted two recent burglaries, both on the 200 Block of West Cermak Avenue, occurring at the same uncanny time of 5:29 A.M. within the month. The first incident was on March 5, 2024, and, the second, exactly two weeks later, on March 18, 2024. These break-ins mirror earlier reports, with unknown thieves gaining entrance to businesses to snatch valuables, thereafter making their escape in the mentioned vehicle.
In response to the troubling series of events, Chicago police are urging store owners to take preventive measures. Recommendations include keeping the area well-lit, securing doors and windows, and promptly fixing any breaches in security like broken locks or windows. Businesses with surveillance systems are encouraged to safeguard footage and cooperate with authorities, providing any potential evidence that could lead to the apprehension of the culprits.
Victims are advised to avoid tampering with the crime scene and call the police posthaste. The alert also suggests requesting contact information from any witnesses—a common-sense step toward building a stronger case. Those with window air conditioner units should take extra caution, as these can be weak points for illegal entry.
Community members are asked to report any suspicious activity, marking a collective effort by residents and law enforcement to combat the wave of burglaries.
