The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert following a spate of armed robberies in the 12th and 19th Districts, urging residents to stay vigilant. According to the alert, the recent crimes involved multiple assailants who, armed with handguns, approached victims in vehicles, demanding their belongings before fleeing.
These incidents occurred in the early morning hours of March 21, 2024, striking fear in the heart of the community with reports from the 1400 block of West George, the 1700 block of West Grace, the 400 block of North Hoyne, and the 500 block of South Western. The perpetrators are described as three African American males, ages ranging between 18 and 30, who were seen escaping in the same vehicle used to arrive at the crime scenes.
The Chicago Police has advised residents to maintain awareness of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity immediately. In the event of an encounter with an assailant, people should remain calm and attempt to note any distinctive features that could help in identification. "Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.)," the police department stated in the alert.
Citizens are reminded to not pursue fleeing suspects but rather to provide any helpful information to the police. They are also encouraged, if approached by witnesses, to obtain their contact information. "Immediately dial 9-1-1 and remain on the scene when possible," the alert recommends. The authorities are determined in their efforts to apprehend the offenders and prevent further incidents in these Chicago neighborhoods.
