The Chicago Police Department has announced plans to conduct a DUI Saturation Patrol in the city's 7th (Englewood) District this upcoming weekend, starting Saturday night, March 23, 2024, and stretching into the early hours of Sunday. Aimed at curbing impaired driving and other traffic violations, the patrol will be on the lookout from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m., as reported by the police department's official news release.

Officers patrolling the area are set to overtly monitor traffic, watching closely for any signs of impaired driving. The initiative is not just to keep a check on drunk driving but to also emphasize speed-related infringements, safety belts, and other alcohol-related violations. Those behind the wheel can expect to see police vehicles kitted out for speed detection, ready to fully catch those going over the speed limit.

In a move to streamline the law enforcement process, a Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit may also be in operation. This unit allows law enforcement to expedite the eventual charging and bonding process for individuals allegedly under the influence, directly at the scene of the patrol.

The effectiveness of these patrols can be seen in the tally from the previous DUI Saturation Patrol held in the 4th (South Chicago) District. According to the same police news release, that operation ended with zero DUI charges but recorded 11 instances of unsafe vehicle violations and 8 insurance violations, among other non-compliance issues. Specifically, 1 seat belt violation, 2 suspended or revoked licenses, and 6 cases with no driver's license were cited, adding up to a total of 38 citations, effectively showing the patrol's commitment to ensuring road safety regulations are adhered to.

Fellow Chicagoans are advised to be mindful of the increased police presence and to adhere strictly to traffic laws for their safety and the safety of others.
